It’s Happening!

It’s been a long time since I checked in on this blog, which is my fault, and this will probably happen again, so I’ll just forgo the usual “sorry for not updating” rigamarole and dive into what I want to write about.

Fae Child is listed as “In Production” on Inkshares!

Rewind a month: my crowdfunding campaign was set to end at the end of February, and for a while there it seemed like I wasn’t going to make it. Emails and messages sent out were just disappearing into the ether, and while the people who had already ordered were enthusiastic, I was up against the brick wall of being blanked by everyone else, and I needed like 80 additional orders in about two weeks.

Unpossible, right? Actually, it wasn’t! I recieved THREE additional syndicate backings from the readers/authors of Inkshares: The Fantasy, Write Out Loud, and Sci-Fi syndicates! People who had already preordered copies bought more. My older brother plugged it to his friends and got four of them to preorder (I mention this because he lead the pack with 4 referrals). Somehow, I still am not quite sure how, the preorder count crept up and up and all of a sudden, with DAYS left to go, Fae Child hit 250 preorders. We had done it – my book qualified for Inkshares’ Quill Collection and will be published.

THANK YOU to everyone who has supported me with words and preorders. I still can’t quite believe it, but it feels more real every day.

What is Next?

  • Finish the first draft: I started Fae Child with just a germ of an idea on August 3rd, 2016, typed up my synopsis and hit ENTER on Inkshares to take part in the Geek & Sundry FantasticInk contest, because of the urging of J. Graham-Jones, another author and a dear friend of mine. I made an outline, wrote up the first chapters, and I’ve been writing it since then. I am only 3 1/2 chapters away from having the first draft complete as of RIGHT NOW, and I’m chipping away at it every day.
  • Work through a second draft: I hope to start this in April, and it should take 1-3 months, depending on how much time I can dedicate to it every day. I may send the manuscript to a few Alpha readers.
  • Send to an editor! I will have secured myself a Developmental Editor by this time (July 2017?) and I will send Fae Child to their capable hands, to be ripped apart with suggestions on how to put it back together.
  • Make suggested changes for my third draft
  • Send to Beta Readers (this may happen earlier)
  • Make more changes!!!! By this point Fae Child will probably be the best I can make it.
  • Hopefully by this time Inkshares will be ready for my manuscript!¬†There are approximately 39 books in the Quill Collection production queue, of which Fae Child is the most recent addition. I will send it in, they will copy edit it, and there will be ADDITIONAL CHANGES before the manuscript is locked and turned into an ebook and sent to the printers.

So, there is a lot of work to do. I am very excited to do it! Thank you for all the support!
